週二(7月30日),數百名示威者聚集在葵湧警署外,高呼“釋放被捕義士”,“沒有暴動,只有暴政”等抗議口號。此前,44名活動人士被控暴動罪。
前美國駐港澳總領事唐偉康(Amb. Kurt Tong)週二在華盛頓表示,相比起2014年的雨傘運動,這一次的示威觸及了香港社會對一國兩制制度的深層擔憂。
他說:“我的理解是,這一次示威香港人的參與度更高,而且涉及了更深層的問題。2014年,民眾聚焦在普選問題和北京提議的特首人選身上,議題是比較集中的。2019年,首先是逃犯條例,但是我認為這次的示威更加反映了人們(對一國兩制)的焦慮,這種焦慮有可能會開始影響到香港的成功。” (My sense is that the participation level is higher in current set of protest, the issues are more fundamental. In 2014, there was a relatively narrow focus on universal suffrage and how Beijing’s proposal regarding how to conduct the chief executive election, so it’s fairly focused. In 2019, there’s the extradition bill…the interesting thing that has taken place this time is that the protests reflect more about people’s gut feeling…people’s level of anxiety. That anxiety could sometimes start to threat Hong Kong’s success. ”)
唐偉康表示,香港人對一國兩制這種政治制度的焦慮很大一部分是因為北京的過多干涉。
他說,“大陸實際上應當稍微放鬆一點,允許香港和中國其他地方之間存在一些空間。尊重香港的主權會讓香港維持原有狀態,這對中國也是有利的”。 (The mainland would be well advised to dial back a little bit, just give it a space it said it would, and reestablish a little bit of distance with the rest of China and Hong Kong. Because respect Hong Kong’s autonomy will allow Hong Kong to act it has always has, which is of beneficial towards China.)
